September 11, 2026

Listen & Watch on

A quarter of Swedish first-time voters have opened a chatbot and asked: which party matches what I believe?

In Episode 2 of AI on the Ballot: Sweden, hosts Bennett Iorio and Sanjay Puri dig into one of the strangest dynamics of this election: 1 in 10 Swedes now get the majority of their election information from an LLM and at the same time, 90% of Swedes fear AI will be used to deliberately mislead voters. Even Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has admitted to regularly asking ChatGPT for a “second opinion” on how to run the country.

πŸ”‘ In this episode:

πŸ—³ Why a University of Copenhagen study found chatbots favor certain parties almost every time.

πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί How Sweden’s NATO accession and proximity to Russia make AI misinformation an existential issue, not just a nuisance.

πŸ€– PM Kristersson’s admission that he consults ChatGPT and Le Chat for policy input β€” and the backlash it triggered.

πŸ“„ The Social Democrats’ llms.txt file β€” and why only one of Sweden’s eight major parties has bothered to make itself AI-readable.

βš– How the EU AI Act, now in force, collides with Sweden’s ambition to become a top-10 global AI nation.

🌍 Why a Green-Social Democrat coalition could face an awkward contradiction between data center ambitions and nuclear moratoriums.
